For CHFD to drop affiliation says a lot about the "network" operations. Essentially a network provides affiliates with primetime and other programming in an arrangement where the affiliate airs all the national ads and is given an allotment of time within the network programming for local ad inserts. The affiliate pays little or nothing for the network programming, it is up to the network to recoup costs via the national advertising they have within the programming they are providing.

That's
not what was going on with CHFD and CTV, what you just said is what CTV wanted! CTV was not able to sell any national advertising during primetime and non-primetime programming (excluding CTV News programming where CTV was able to sell national ads) CTV wanted the right to sell national advertising during primetime CTV programming.

CTV seems to be losing all their private affiliates slowly but surely, and I believe this is their intention actually, if they don't outright own the station they simply don't want to bother with it. They want 100% control of the stick, they want 100% of the income from the stick, they no longer wish to share any of the revenues their programming generates it seems.

They DO want to share revenues, Under the new agreement CHFD would get all the local and regional advertising and CTV would get national advertising. It's CHFD that didn't want to share.

Yes Local TV matters to them, but only if they happen to own the station. If not, then it matters not so much.

Once again, why should CTV agree to a deal that's not viable for them? It's no surprise that a deal that was viable when conventional television was strong is not viable when conventional television is in crisis.
